Ever since Claire’s dad taught her how to draw by doodling weasels and crocodiles for her to copy, she’s loved art and design. After studying at The University of Nottingham she took a course in illustration at Central St Martins, London and in 2006 began working as an illustrator and designer and set up her publishing business Mildew Design Ltd. Her design style reflects her love for all things quirky, kitsch and esoteric. Plus she’s a sucker for anything with a cupcake on it. She likes to work from hand in pen and ink, pencil and gouache as she feels it gives her work more depth, texture and life than designing straight onto the Mac.

In 2008 Claire met Stilly who has since designed three children’s card ranges for her and created their birthday countdown calendars, drawing from his experiences from his own children. Claire also designs with her brother James who has his own unique style and also designs tattoo artwork.

Claire’s experience in the greetings card industry means the team have strong and established relationships with printers, finishers and envelope manufacturers, meaning they can take on any design project from start to finish and design briefs can be as vague or detailed as you wish. All its printing, paper and envelopes come from British companies and it uses FSC or recycled stock where possible.
